There are many different location technologies. Bluetooth is a proximity-based location technology that integrates easily with applications or server-based location solutions. It’s a low-cost, active RFID technology that allows for extremely fast installation, even in fairly complex environments, like warehouses, factories, and stores. When general location information (down to a small zone or room) is all that is needed to improve your operation, Bluetooth is the ideal technology and a tremendous value. Zebra IoT Bridge devices are built on Bluetooth low energy technology and dual-band (2.4 and 5.0GHz) 802.11 Wi-Fi and integrate with Zebra’s Savanna Location Engine (or Partner’s own location engines) to form the foundation of easily deployable proximity-based asset visibility solutions. Zebra IoT Bridges are purposefully designed Bluetooth® low energy and dual-band Wi-Fi devices. Installed at a fixed, known location or as a mobile device that can roam, the IoT bridge listens for Bluetooth low energy beacons and then sends that data securely across a customer’s own Wi-Fi network to the location engine. Location data derived from the beacon and IoT bridge data can be transformed by location analytics solutions like Zebra MotionWorks to provide operational visibility for actionable business insights, providing real time insights into how your business operates. These insights can be leveraged to improve your business, making it more effective, competitive and profitable. Location data provides insights to give your business a performance edge. 802.11 Wi-Fi networks are ubiquitous, deployed at most commercial and industrial businesses, and secure. Strong encryption techniques are commonplace, and all manners of personal, private, financial and other critical business is transacted across Wi-Fi. The IoT Bridge products leverage existing Wi-Fi network infrastructure to deploy using known and accepted security protocols, minimizing infrastructure costs, simplifying deployment, and ensuring customer data is secure. The low power consumption of Bluetooth® low energy technology is the catalyst for battery-powered devices that can be used to create innovative asset management, material replenishment, and yard management solutions. Be it manufacturing, transportation and logistics or retail; location data from the edge of the network provides valuable information about how your operation is actually performing. The low battery consumption characteristics of Bluetooth® low energy devices enable the development of innovative, battery-operated active beacons, operating for multiple years at cost points that are compelling. Zebra Bluetooth beacon-based solutions generally include a combination of fixed and/or mobile beacons combined with fixed or mobile IoT bridges (listens for Bluetooth beacons and then communicates across Wi-Fi back to the location engine) acting upon the beacon information. The system can be a stand-alone application that uses beacons or can be used in conjunction with Zebra MotionWorks solutions. The IoT bridge device can be the fixed MB5000, mobile MB6000, a mobile computer/smart phone with an application or some mix of the three provided the data is fed to the Savanna Location Engine to be used as part of a MotionWorks solution (or as part of a partner’s solution). Zebra’s MotionWorks solutions integrate seamlessly with Zebra Bluetooth Beacons and IoT bridges. However, these beacons and bridges will also work with third-party solutions that follow the Bluetooth® low energy and Wi-Fi specifications. Zebra has developed, toolbox applications, and detailed documentation to help customers and partners create location solutions based on Zebra Bluetooth beacons and IoT Bridges. Zebra’s IoT Bridges and Bluetooth beacons are compatible with the Savanna Location Engine and Zebra MotionWorks. Zebra MotionWorks™ location solutions give businesses the ability to use automated data collection to attain actionable insights from the location, state and data of tagged enterprise resources. By using hardware to capture data (including Zebra’s many sensing, tagging, and mobility technologies, as well as popular third-party technologies), MotionWorks deploys some of the world’s largest and most successful automated resource tracking, asset visibility and management solutions— across industries, and for some the world’s largest companies. The Savanna Location Engine is an integrated software package for on-premise deployment, featuring a console with reports, maps, alerts, and dashboards at the enterprise resource level. Using proven algorithms and rules engines, it derives actionable information and business context from the location data being gathered and provides a common set of outputs to share with applications that need this data. And the application layer then integrates and/or interfaces with multiple customer, 3rd party or enterprise applications through open standard protocols and APIs. With the Savanna location engine and as part of a MotionWorks solution, Zebra can use BLE for both proximity/presence and also full locate. Beacons are located using a presence algorithm based on proximity to a fixed or mobile bridge (or bridge app on a mobile computer) Mobile IoT bridges or Mobile computers with an IoT bridge application can also be fully located (assigned an x,,y coordinate on a map) using a maximum likelihood algorithm if two or more beacons are received by a device at once.
